About Congress 2027

The Federation and Simon Fraser University are collaborating on the 2027 edition of the Federation's Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, set to take place in British Columbia in early summer 2027.

Over the last year, informed by our new Strategic Plan, we’ve been reimagining Congress through extensive consultation and focused planning, asking how this national gathering can remain sustainable and strong in a changing postsecondary landscape.

We look forward to sharing details on Congress 2027, including the model, programming, and opportunities to participate in the months ahead.

About the theme: Confluences

Congress 2027: Confluences is an invitation to explore the histories we elucidate, the languages we connect through, the cultures we inherit, and the places and communities we form, and are formed by, over time.

These expressions of humanity trace and alter memory, belief, power, and promise through the physical and digital worlds we share. Confluences celebrates humanities and social sciences scholars as knowledge mobilizers, sense-makers, interpreters, translators and leaders. Their work brings questions and perspectives into conversation, helping societies understand themselves and opening new possibilities for their futures.

Drawing inspiration from the mountains and waters surrounding Simon Fraser University, Congress 2027 offers a natural echo for the first fully open program: a gathering where disciplines, scholars, leaders, and public questions converge.
